The KT64 Multifunction Tester makes ‘ease of use’ it’s top priority with such features as:- A single rotary dial to make your test selection. Non trip loop circuits with Anti Trip Technology (ATT). Voltage Measurement

 

To save on having to carry an additional voltage detector the KT64 has a dedicated function for voltage detection.

 

Continuity Measurement

 

The test current exceeds 200mA as required for BS7671 and range selection is automatic. Continuous testing can be carried out by use of the test button lockdown feature. A selectable buzzer gives instantaneous indication of continuity.

Easy to use lead null facility eliminates the test lead resistance from the results, the nulled value is retained even if the instrument is switched off. Live circuit warnings are given by a

flashing LED, buzzer and indication on the main display.

 

Insulation Measurement

The KT64 has three selectable voltages, 250V for low voltage systems, 500V and 1000V. An auto-discharge function ensures that circuits are not hazardous after testing. A red LED gives warning of high voltage output during testing and discharging of the circuit. In case of connecting to a live circuit, a live circuit warning is given by flashing LED, buzzer and indication on the display.

 

Loop Impedance Measurement

 

A patented (ATT) low current loop impedance test enables high accuracy loop measurements and quick (7s) testing without tripping RCD’s.

 

A high current alternative is selectable for even higher accuracy and instantaneous results. This option is easily selectable and the subsequent test will default to the low current test, this saves any inadvertent tripping of the RCD. Polarity indication, supply voltage and frequency values are constantly displayed. The KT64 allows for phase to phase loop tests, again with an easily selectable option.

 

PSC / PFC Measurement

A separate dial position for PSC and PFC measurements with clearly marked selections makes this function easy and PSC can be taken after loop measurements without changing test leads.

Again the function has low and high test current options with the default to low current to avoid inadvertent tripping of RCDs.

 

RCD Measurement

The KT64 has a comprehensive RCD test feature:

• Suitable for RCDs rated at between 10mA and 1A

• Tests at 0˚ and 180˚ phase angle

• Measures at ½ x, 1x and 5x nominal tripping current with easily selectable options.

• Tests time delay RCDs (Selective) often found in TT systems

• Ramp test – identifies RCDs susceptible to nuisance tripping and identifies circuits with earth leakage problems.

• Auto-test – enables complete testing of a 30mA RCD (6 tests) while the operator simply stands by and resets the RCD. All the results are displayed on one screen – no need to scroll.

• Tests DC sensitive (type A) RCDs

• Touch current can be selected for 25V or 50V depending on application.

The KT71 is aimed at users of manual Pat testers and also offers the added convenience of automatic test sequences – it couldn’t be simpler. A single position on the rotary dial indicates the type of test, for instance a Class I for IT equipment – it couldn’t be easier. The start button starts the sequence and LEDs will indicate the state of each test. Green for pass and red for fail – it couldn’t be more straightforward. The actual test result is also displayed for recording.

Class I IT equipment test Safely tests IT equipment, performs the sequence of an earth bond test at 200mA, followed by a check to see whether the user has not forgotten to switch the instrument on, then an insulation test. The insulation test has a 250V or 500V option and the test sequence also has an option whether a leakage current test is done instead of the insulation test. This corresponds to the IEE Code of Practice which supports a leakage test where insulation tests cannot be safely conducted.

 

Class I 20A test

Performs the sequence of an earth bond test at 20A, followed by a check to see whether the user has not forgotten to switch the instrument on, then an insulation test. The insulation test has a 250V or 500V option and the test sequence has an alternative of a leakage current test instead of the insulation test. This corresponds to the IEE Code of Practice which supports a leakage test where insulation tests cannot be safely conducted

or are suspect.

 

Class II test

The class II sequence tests whether the appliance is switched on and then runs an insulation test. A leakage current test (touch current test) can be conducted as an alternative.

 

Leakage Current (touch current) test

The Leakage Current Test is conducted at mains voltage, a load test and a leakage test is undertaken and the results are shown alternately on the screen. (Testing at mains voltage gives superior results than Instruments that perform this by subsequent leakage tests)

 

Extension Lead test

Tests Earth Continuity with 20A test current, insulation and polarity. An extension lead adapter comes with the KT71.

Everything you need

The KT71 comes ready to use with a strap and a lid that slides off and is conveniently stored on the underside of the instrument. A mains lead, test lead and extension lead adaptor are also included for 230V testing. The lead set is stored in a pouch which is attached to the strap of the instrument, conveniently keeping everything together.

This KT71 makes PAT Testing easy and safe:

In house maintenance staff who conduct their own yearly PAT testing and Electrical contractors who need to have a Pat testing capability but for whom it is not core to their business can easily be trained to use this instrument with complete safety. LED indicators give visual pass/fail indication with limits set in accordance with the IET (IEE) code of practice. This means that, in most cases, unskilled users will not have to interpret the results.

When switching to live testing (In leakage current mode) audible warnings are given that the appliance is about to come live. A double button press is also required to safeguard against inadvertent switching on of an appliance.
